Blog Action Day thingy

I'm told it's Blog Action Day, and that I should post something concerning the Environment - whatever that means. Actually, I think pretty much everything I write about concerns the Environment in one form or another, but hey. Anyway, in the spirit of the thing, I'm not going to speak about the weekend today - no, tales of angry bees and killer kittens will have to wait, as will my reinstatement as an Ecoblog Soak. Because, ladies and gents, I'm going to go out for a walk now and enjoy the environment. There are no streetlights here, but my eyes will get used to the dark. I won't use any electricity while I'm out there (in fact I'll use less because the lights and the PC will be switched off), nor will I cull any seals*. In fact, I can't think that I'll be doing any damage at all beyond my metabolic needs, which I admit are not inconsiderable. So please, let my modest contribution to this event be to ask you, wherever you are, to get out and enjoy your environment for a little while. Take a different route to normal, or raise your eyes higher and look at the skyline. Connect. And ponder.

*At least, it's unlikely.

I thought your were coming out with some particularly sagacious advice when you said "take a different route to normal". I thought that's a good way of describing the need to break out of our consumer rut.

Then I realised it was one of those "Chance, the gardener" moments. You were just going for a walk.

Sigh. And there I was thinking I'd got some great insight. :D

Well that's another "day" that's passed me by then but I was out collecting apples and chestnuts and appreciating the environment no end. Job done then

Ah, grasshopper. The one with a Head of Stone does not realise that "take a different route" is indeed sagacious advice, a deep insight. A sort of zen koan for our times. Or maybe you were just going for a walk. Either way.

missed this one, how late did you post it monday? i only spotted it tuesday and was then so busy finally starting my own blog i missed it! not that i'm ever going to let anyone read my blog after reading yours....

but the good news is that Monday was actually spent out walking with the girls and yes, taking a different route (we went into our once a month town rather than our once a week town in order to open bank accounts for the girls) and even Boo walked the whole time so we definitely had time to stop, raise our eyes to the skyline and admire (more like building line than skyline but a start i guess...) but only one at a time in order to still keep an eye on the potential fugitive!

"Take a different route" on foot / mentally: well, to do one is often to do the other, which is why I suggested it. Familiarity makes no new connections. Note I didn't suggest a particular route - but on our different route which was very dark indeed, we got down to discussing our strategy for employment - and some small changes have been made. Nothing earthshaking. We didn't see any wildlife as it was pitch black out there, but from the sounds of it a fair amount of wildlife saw us.
